Ljungby Maskin implementing major upgrades while also celebrating 4,000th wheel loader

26 November, 2019

The new Stage V requirements for diesel engines come into effect on 1 January 2020. Ljungby Maskin is now also taking the opportunity to implement important upgrades to its entire machine concept, including a new control system and an even better operator environment. Parallel to this, the company is celebrating the delivery of its 4,000th wheel loader.

Eco-friendly engines

Ljungby Maskin has three engines in its machine range. Engines from the Finnish company AGCO are found in the lower capacity classes L9 – L20, whereas larger machines have Scania engines. With the introduction of Stage V, the engines now meet the new environmental requirements of the EU’s machinery directive. The engines are equipped with the latest emission treatment technology combined with diesel exhaust fluid (DEF/AdBlue) and particle filters.

The engines have been specifically chosen to give the machines the additional power for which Ljungby is renowned. Another finesse is that the engines are now equipped with hydraulic valve lifters. These deliver both lower fuel consumption and lower operating costs. Naturally, the entire wheel loader range includes a lockup option for the transmission.

Benny Granath, Marketing Manager: “Changing engines entails a great deal of work, but we’ve been proactive and taken the opportunity to combine stricter environmental requirements with even better performance. Customers often buy Ljungby machines because our wheel loaders have additional power built into the entire design concept, and now they get even more.”

New, modern control system

The other major change is a substantially upgraded control system. The company has moved to the fore in this area, and the system lives up to strict market demands.

The system is based on the latest Parker/ICAN technology and is, of course, completely digital, making it extremely flexible. This is noticeable as soon as you enter the cab, with its new and rugged antiglare display. This is optimally positioned on a flexible mount to the right of the operator, offering a superb view of all the integrated functions. All of which offer personal settings, of course. Moreover, it is now much easier to add and adjust different functions to match personal preferences directly from the display.

Ljungby Maskin is renowned for its great flexibility and offers a plethora of additional functions that are easily integrated with the machine, something that other manufacturers generally class as customisation. The new system will also make it even easier to integrate such functions.

Many improvements to the operator environment

A large number of improvements have been made with a focus on visibility, ergonomics, comfort, safety and efficiency. The new control system, for instance, has enabled improvements to the operator environment.

Benny Granath again: “Although our operator environment has been named the best in the industry in independent tests, there’s always room for improvement. With the introduction of the new control system, among other things, we’ve moved a number of functions from keypads on the right pillar to the display instead. This also means a narrower pillar, further improving functionality and visibility.”

A brand-new lever steering system has also been introduced. A system that has been thoroughly tested and is both ergonomic and very easy to use. Similarly, a practical foot pedal has been developed to make it easier to release the steering column to adjust the steering column angle.

The popular cab suspension now offers even greater stability and reliability. The suspension has an updated cylinder design with several new component parts that have been thoroughly tested and offer greater reliability. The cab has also been equipped with additional and more effective air vents to optimise the airflow and cab climate, as well as with a defrosting function.

“Dialogue is especially important to us here at Ljungby Maskin. And so, it’s particularly satisfying to be able to fulfil new regulatory requirements while also incorporating much of the extensive feedback we’ve received from our customers. And this is something we've now done.”
